- How to change the Win95 default yellow color folders to Mac folder icons
- ________________________________________________________________________
-
-
- To change standard Win95 folder icons, you could either follow the steps
- below CAREFULLY, or you could get a shareware called Microangelo 2.1 from
- Impact Software and use a program called Microangelo Engineer to change the
- folder icon and rebuild the icon cache for you. The address is:
-
- "http://www.impactsoft.com/" or
-
- "ftp://ftp.impactsoft.com/pub/impactsoft/ma21.zip"
-
- To do it yourself:
- ------------------
- Note: If you have MS Plus installed, follow steps 1,2,4,5,6.
- If you don't have MS Plus, follow steps 1,2,3,5,6.
-
- 1) Run Regedit.exe (Registry Editor should be used with precautions).
-
- 2) On the left pane, keep opening until you get to the subkey -
-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft
- \Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons
-
- 3) If you have MS Plus, jump to Step 4 now,
- otherwise look to the right pane. It should contain only one line.
-
- On the right pane, right click the mouse to create a
- new string value called 3. Do it again for the value 4.
-
- Now you should see three lines:
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Name | Data
- ------------------------------------------------------
- [ab](Default) (value not set)
- [ab]3 ""
- [ab]4 ""
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------------
-
- Now double click 3 and then in the "Value data" entry
- of the popup window type:
-
- c:\program files\winmac\icons\folder.ico,0
-
- Similarly, double click 4 and type:
-
- c:\program files\winmac\icons\open.ico,0
-
-
- Now the right pane would become:
- -------------------------------------------------------
- Name | Data
- -------------------------------------------------------
- [ab](Default) (value not set)
- [ab]3 "c:\program files\..(etc)..\folder.ico,0"
- [ab]4 "c:\program files\..(etc)..\open.ico,0"
-
-
- -------------------------------------------------------
-
- Now you should jump to Step 5.
-
- 4) This step assumes you have MS Plus and skipped step 3.
- On the right pane, scroll down to "3" for the folder icons
- (about 20 lines down).
-
- Double click "3" to modify the data.
-
- For a standard Win95 without Plus, the default entry is
- "C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\shell32.dll,3"
-
- For Microsoft Plus folder, the default entry is
- "C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\cool.dll,11"
-
- To use Mac folder, change it to something like
- "C:\Program Files\WinMac\Icons\Folder.ico,0"
-
- Similarly, double click "4" to modify the data:
- "C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\shell32.dll,4" or
- "C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\cool.dll,18"
- with
- "C:\Program Files\WinMac\Icons\Open.ico,0"
-
-
- 5) Restart your computer in DOS mode.
-
- 6) At "C:\WIN95\" type:
-
- attrib -h shelli~1
- (to unhide a file called Shelliconcache)
- del shelli~1
- (to delete that file)
- exit
- (to restart Windows)
